Luke 22:66–71 (ESV)
Jesus Before the Council
66 When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, 67 “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, 68 and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” 70 So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” 71 Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”

After Jesus arrest, they take him for his first trial.  It was held at night time to Caiphas house.  A night time trial is illegal under Jewish law, and so is having a trial without a defense.  Jewish law also required two days for a verdict and Jesus got only one.  They clearly were working outside of the law, but trying to make it look legal.  They are trying to get Jesus to saying something to incriminate himself, but Jesus never quite does that.  He beats around the bush, but when they asked “Are you the Son of God?”  Jesus instead says “You say that I am.”  Jesus did not directly state this until after the resurrection.  Legal or illegal, Jesus knows the trials must take place.

I pray: Oh Lord, you did not waver through your trial process.  You knew your plan of salvation and you carried it out.  Help me to fulfill my duties as a Christian.  Help me to remain faithful unto the end and to share the Gospel of Jesus with others.  Amen.
