Luke 22:7–13 (ESV)
The Passover with the Disciples
7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8 So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.” 9 They said to him, “Where will you have us
prepare it?” 10 He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters 11 and tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest
room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 12 And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.” 13 And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
The disciples are coming together to celebrate the Passover which commemorates God delivering the Children of Israel from the bonds of slavery in Egypt. Every year, Jews come to Jerusalem to celebrate, so large crowds are coming
to Jerusalem from all over the world. First they have to find a place to celebrate the Passover. Jesus issues a small prophecy and tells the disciples what to do. Jesus says: “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man
carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters 11 and tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 12 And he will show you a large
upper room furnished; prepare it there.” They go and find it just as he had told them. So we are getting real close to the crucifiction, but we are not there yet, but the place for the Passover has been secured.
One of the qualities of the disciples is that they listened and obeyed. Jesus gave them instructions and they went and followed them. Where would the church be today if ever body listened and responded. If people
are told to go out into the community and share the Gospel of Jesus, and responded.... that would be GREAT! Unfortunately, a lot of people put fear of rejection ahead of the command by Christ to take the message out to the world. Maybe that is
why they were chosen to be Apostles, but only those who followed and carried out the instructions. What if Jesus had called you? Where would the church be today? Well, he has called all believers to share the Gospel message.
I pray: O Lord, help me to listen and follow your instructions. Help me to be a man of action and to react according to your will. Forgive me when I fall short, or even when I choose to do it my way
instead or perhaps to ignore your commands altogether. I repent and want to do better. Amen.
