Luke 22:3–6 (ESV)
Judas to Betray Jesus
3 Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. 4 He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them. 5 And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. 6 So he consented
and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.
This is a unique verse that shows that Judas betrays Jesus before the Passover. Jesus will reference this event at the Last
Supper. Notice that Satan enters into Judas. Judas is responsible for his actions, but Satan is the motivator. Who was Judas negotiating? The chief priest and officers. The way to Jesus is through feeding Judas’ greed with
money. Judas traveled with Jesus, ate with Jesus, witnessed the miracles of Jesus, heard the teachings of Jesus... but his God was money.
I pray: O Lord, I know that every time I sin, I turn my
back on you and betray you. Forgive me and help me to keep my eyes on you and to follow you until the end. Let money never be my master, but only you. Amen.
