Luke 21:29–33 (ESV)
The Lesson of the Fig Tree
29 And he told
them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. 31 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
32 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Jesus has been talking about the signs of the End
Times. Today, he compares these signs to that of a fig tree. I always can tell spring is coming when new sprouts start popping up and flowers are starting to bloom. You know summer is near when fig trees start getting leafs and you know summer
is here when you get figs. Jesus is saying to watch for the signs of the End Times.
I pray: O Lord, help me to live as if you are coming all the time, help me to live as I should always live by
trusting in the faith you gave me, walking according to your ways, and sharing the Gospel to the lost. If I live this way all the time, then I don’t need to be concerned about when you come. Help me to always remember that I am not saved
by my works or my righteousness, but on your perfect life, death, and resurrection for the forgiveness of my sins. Amen.
