Luke 21:10–19 (ESV)
Jesus Foretells Wars and Persecution
10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.
12 But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake. 13 This will be your opportunity to bear witness. 14 Settle
it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer, 15 for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. 16 You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and
friends, and some of you they will put to death. 17 You will be hated by all for my name’s sake. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By your endurance you will gain your lives.
Somehow
I got out of order and skipped two sections, so one will be today and the other will be tomorrow and we will be caught up. Jesus is still talking about the End Times and the signs to come. Many generations have felt that they were living in the
End Times, but the world kept revolving. Jesus said nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. Well, to be truthful... we are seeing all of
these things today. Are we living in the End Times??? Maybe... Maybe not. I tend to take the position of living each day as you are in the End Times and don’t worry about when it will happen, but know it will happen. Live each
day for the Lord and keep plugging along. When Martin Luther was asked what would he do if he knew Christ was returning today... he said he would plant a tree. The point he is driving at is that we shouldn’t be living any differently that
how we should be living anyway. Keep living as a Christian and keep spreading the Gospel. No one knows when he will return. We are to endure in our faith until the end. Jesus says “ But not a hair of your head will perish. 19
By your endurance you will gain your lives.”
I pray: O Lord, help me to live as a Christian, to walk according to your ways, to trust in your saving faith, and to spread the Gospel. I don’t
know when you will return and the signs indicate that it could be anytime. Thank you for your patience and forgiveness and help to live as I ought too. Amen.
