Luke 20:41–44 (ESV)
Whose Son Is the Christ?
But he said to them, “How can they say that the Christ is David’s son? 42 For David himself says in the Book of Psalms,
“ ‘The Lord said to my
“Sit at my right hand,
43 until I make your enemies your footstool.”
44 David thus calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”
Jesus decides to ask the Scribes a question, and he is basically asking “Who
am I?” They believe the Messiah is David’s son, yet David describes the Messiah and “my Lord”. Why would David refer to his son as “my Lord” instead of referring to him as his son? David is give way more
respect when he answers the question in Psalms 110:1. Jesus is questioning their view and using David as his defense, as David call him Lord. Jesus is truly a descendent of David, and David would one day bow down to his Lord Jesus. Jesus
will sit at the right hand of God, because he is God... and is to be exalted.
I pray: O Lord, you are my Lord and God... just as Thomas declares. You are God and sit at the right hand of the Father.
You are man and yet at the same time, you are God. I exalt you and lift your name on high. Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen.
