Luke 12:54–56 (ESV)
Interpreting the Time
He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens. 55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens.
56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
Clouds from the west are coming from the Mediterranean Sea which
means moisture and rain. South winds are coming from the desert and are bringing dry heat. The people can read the weather, but the Messiah is there and they are missing his ministry and message. The Lutheran Study Bible states: “Jesus
condemns the unbelief of those beholding His miraculous signs who yet reject the obvious implications. Satan blinds the hearts of unbelievers even to this day. Only by God’s grace can we see clearly, as the Spirit opens our eyes through faith in Jesus
Christ. “Amazing grace—how sweet the sound—That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost but now am found, Was blind but now I see!”
I pray: O Lord, there are many today
that are missing your Messianic message regarding your life, death, and resurrection, for the forgiveness of sins. You are my Savior and I pray that with the power of the Holy Spirit, to be bold in telling others this message. May you stir the
hearts of those who hear that they may be convicted and converted through the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for everything you have done for me. Amen.
