Luke 11:42–44 (ESV)
Woes to the Pharisees and the Lawyers (Part 2)
42 “But woe to you
Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 43 Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
44 Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without knowing it.”
Jesus addresses the Pharisees in regards to tithes. They are good tithers, even tithing the produce
from their gardens. Their tithing is not the problem, it is their injustice to others. What is more important than tithes?
Proverbs 21:3 (ESV)
3 To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
We live in a world that we believe that we can solve all problems by throwing enough money at it.
This can be the answer to the problem, but it does nothing to stop the one from continuing to do injustice to others. I know today that there are many corporations that would rather pay the fines of pollution than to stop polluting. Well, this
can apply to our own lives too.
I pray: O Lord, help me to be merciful along with giving back to you tithes. Help me to live and walk according to your will and ways, and to do what is right.
I give thanks for your forgiveness of when I have fallen short or have not shown mercy. I want to do better. Amen.
