Luke 11:24-26
Return of an Unclean Spirit
24
“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ 25 And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order.
26 Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first.”
Can you imagine being possessed by
a demon and then being set free. How great that would feel, yet what if you returned to the same lifestyle that allowed the demon to enter in the first place. When a demon is exorcized, the demon searches for another person, but if he comes back
to that person, in this case he brings seven other spirits more evil than itself to dwell in the person. I know that people have often had spiritual wake up calls and I hear that they are going to change and to live according to God’s will.
It is usually a short time before they are back to doing things the way they were doing them before. I usually warn people to not make deals or commitments with the Lord, because they will most likely not keep them. Instead trust in the Lord
as the source for your saving faith. It is faith in Jesus Christ that keeps the demons from coming back. Jesus is our vaccine against Satan. We should take this as a warning that when Jesus sets us free, we need to be careful that we do not
return to our old ways.
I pray: O Lord, help me to trust in your saving faith and help me to flee from my old ways and to let you guide me according to your will. I pray to lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
