Luke 9:49–50 (ESV)
Anyone Not Against Us Is For Us
49 John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.” 50 But Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you.”

There is a problem when we think we have the exclusive right to Jesus, or even the exclusive right to Heaven itself.  There are Lutherans out there that think we are the only ones going to Heaven.  I think they will be shocked when they get there and find other Christians.  This is the attitude that the disciples had in today’s reading.  Someone else is messing with their exclusive status with Jesus.  I know that there was a seminarian (a fellow classmate), who came to talk with me when my Dad died in 2003.   He asked if it bothered me that he wouldn’t be in Heaven?  He said this because my Dad was a Methodist.  I told him my Dad believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.  John 3:16 is a promise to all who believe.  About that time, a professor walked up drilled this seminarian and spit him out.  There is a problem when we think we are the only ones going to Heaven.  I do believe we have the best Theology in the world, but we are saved by faith... look at the thief on the cross.  People can have wrong theology, but if they trust Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior... then we should see them in Heaven.  Now I may ask if you know you are going to a church where not all the theology adds up... then wouldn’t you want to go to a church that teaches the right Theology?  This is the very reason I left the Methodist Church when they no longer taught that the Bible is the inspired word of God.  Will there be Methodist in Heaven??  Yes!  Even though many denomination are wandering away from God’s Word... there are still those who believe in Jesus.  I will have brothers in Christ from many denominations with me in Heaven.  Do not stop them, for they are still for Jesus.  I will continue to preach and teach to the lost... and those who are wandering away from the Word of God.

I pray: O Lord, help all your followers to turn back to your Word, to teach and preach it in truth and purity.  Help us to all cling to the faith that you have given us. For you so loved the world, that you gave your only begotten son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.  Help us all to keep our eyes fixed on you.  Amen.
