Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time
While everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples, 44“Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.” 45But
they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
In today’s reading, we have Jesus making his second
prediction about his death. Well, regarding Jesus prediction about his death, Jesus told them once, twice, and (later) a third time… and they still did not get it. The crowds were marveling at all his teachings, miracles, casting out demons…
that death was the last thing on their minds. This is the Jesus who raised the dead! Jesus even knew they would have difficulty with this statement, that is why he said “Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you”, but
they still didn’t get it. In fact scripture says “It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.” After Jesus death and resurrection, this will all come back and make
sense with them.
I pray: O Lord, how could the disciples forget this statement? They had their own perspectives and views, but I guess I am no different than they are in that I do not always
obey you even though you have been very clear. Again, it is when I take my eyes off of you that I fall into sin. Help me in my daily walk to put you first. Mold me and shape me according to your will. Amen.
