Luke 4:5–8 (ESV)
The Temptation of Jesus (Temptation #2)
5 And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6 and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. 7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” 8 And Jesus answered him, “It is written,
“ ‘You shall worship the Lord your God,
and him only shall you serve.’ ”

If being tempted is a sin, then Jesus is a sinner.  Remember that temptation is not a sin, but how you respond.  The devil now makes a political proposition to Jesus.  The devil shows Jesus all the kingdoms in the world and then offers them to Jesus.  I think of all the cartoons and super hero movies I have seen and it always seem that the want to control the world with their diabolical minds.  “I want to be ruler of the WORLD!”  Well, the devil is offering to give this authority to Jesus.  Who could resist such an offer!  All you have to do is worship the devil.  Jesus basically quotes scripture back by stating “You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.”  He is basically quoting Deut. 6:13.  This is basically a First Commandment issue “You shall have no other God.”  In essence, the devil is offering Jesus a chance to be God over all the Kingdoms.  The irony of this is that Jesus is the creator of the whole world and all that there is belongs to him.  So the devil is offering him a chance to have all authority over everything that he [Jesus] created.  Jesus says No!  Well he stated it a little differently, but Jesus is the King of Kings and the devil has seemed to forget this.  I pray: O Lord, the devil will try to entice me away with all kinds of goods, positions, power, or whatever.  Help me to remember that I have already been given the greatest gift of all, that is the forgiveness of my sins, eternal life, and heaven itself.  Help me to never take my eyes off of you and to never take my faith for granted.  Guide me O Great Redeemer. Amen!
