Congratulations to Kyle and Caroline Randolph, married Saturday 04/27/2013 in Dallas.
Luke 2:39–40 (ESV)
The Return to Nazareth
39 And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong,
filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.
I just got back from Dallas and give thanks to the Lord that the reading is extremely short, because it is 1 AM in the morning and I’m tired.
Just two sentences, yet they present a problem. There is no problem until you look at the Matthew text which involves the Magi along with Mary and Joseph escaping to Egypt with Jesus when Herod tries to kill all the babies (Matt. 2:1-23). Luke
just plows right over this as if he doesn’t know anything about it. How do you reconcile these two gospel accounts? Well you most likely have to squeeze Matthew’s account in between Luke 2:38 and 2:39). You must realize that each
of the four Gospels are describing the life and ministry of Jesus from different perspectives. It is like four people seeing a wreck happen and they fill out reports with the police officer on the scene. All four are truthful, but each will omit
information simply because of the different perspectives.
Verse 40 doesn’t present any problems, but what is important is that we see Jesus is filled with wisdom. You will see some of this wisdom in action
in tomorrow’s reading. I pray: Lord, bless Caroline and Kyle’s marriage and help them to stay focused on you. Lord, bless all marriages and help us to fight for our marriage instead of fighting against marriage. Give us
wisdom to stay true to you and help us to grow in spirit. Let us receive your favor. Amen.
