Luke 1:34–38 (ESV)
34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”
35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

When the angel spoke to Zechariah about Elizabeth going to have a baby (John), his response was “How can this be?”  Now Mary is asking the same question after the angel tells her about her baby (Jesus) and she responds: “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”  Similar response, yet not the same.  How will this be, because she is still a virgin.   The angel answered: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.”  Could you imagine hearing and taking in all of this that the angel is saying.  I’m sure there is shock and a little bit of “what will the world think about this?”  I mean, she’ll be having “the Son of God?”  Wow!  I imagine that her head is spinning with this news... and now she finds out about her cousin Elizabeth who has been barren!  Scripture says: “36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”  We are talking about a double miracle that is double unbelievable!  Yet God IS sending a message!  The message is “nothing will be impossible with God!”  Not a barren womb, not even a sealed womb.  The barren is pregnant and the virgin is pregnant!  The excitement is just a little too much, but I ask WHY?  When you stop for a moment to think about it, God IS the creator of the world and creator of all things.  After creating the beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the ocean, after creating the majestic snow capped mountains, after creating the babbling springs, after creating all the animals, after creating Adam and Eve, after creating you and me... why should we doubt?  Mary responds: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” Wow!  What faith!  I pray: “Lord, I think of all the times I have doubted you.  I think of all the times I have turned from you to do it my way, I think of all the times I have turned my back to you O Lord!  I cry out to you and repent of my sins and know that my response should be “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; Let it be to me according to your word!”  Help me to respond from the heart of Mary, help me to respond with the faith of Mary,... Help me to simply respond without doubt like Mary!  Lord I repent and I want to do better.  Help me in my journey Lord, to keep on trusting in you and to walk according to your ways.  Help me to trust in your forgiveness of sins, your life, death, and resurrection for my salvation... and not in my righteousness.  My Salvation is not about what I have done for you, but what you have done for me.  You are my Lord and Savior! Amen!
