Revelation 22:10–15 (ESV)
10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. 11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”
12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

We are still in a conversation between an angel, Jesus, and John.  John is merely along for the ride, but he is told to write down everything.  The angel tells John to not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book.  In other words, this message needs to get out.  I agree.  I do think there is a danger of getting this message without the knowledge of the other books.  One needs to have an understanding of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  It is also good to have a general understanding of Acts and the epistles (letters) found after the 4 Gospels.   These teachings are crucial to saving faith.  This book is a warning against falling away, false teachers, and also serves as an encourager to stay in the faith.  Hard times come to Christians living in this fallen world.  Until Jesus comes again, stay in the faith.  John writes: “11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”  Which group do you belong?  Is it the evildoers?  The filthy? Or the righteous?   If it is the righteous, still do right.
Jesus speaks after the angel and says 12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” We know what we have done, but we also believe in forgiveness.  We believe in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins.  We also know and want to repent of our sins and to do better.  When God forgives, he remembers our sins no more.  I cling to this.  I am forever grateful.
The angel speaks again: 14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” How do we wash our robes?  We wash them with the blood of the lamb.  That is... our robes have been washed through our baptism and our faith.  It is faith and God’s grace that gets you through the city’s gates.  The believers are inside the gates and everyone else is outside the gates.  Cling to your faith, flee from sin!  Our faith is our life preserver... not our works.  Our works are signs of our gratitude.  I pray: Lord, I want to be inside the city, living in your presence.  Help me to turn away from all idolatry, sexual immorality, and falsehood.  Help me to stay focused on you.  Let the cross be ever before me.  Lord, it seems that it is often little things that distract me away from you.  Help me to set my priorities straight and to not be distracted.  Protect me from the devil who is always trying to get my attention.  Thank you for your continued love, grace, compassion, and forgiveness.  Amen!
