04/04/2013 Revelation 21:1-4

I'm sorry for the delay, I fell asleep last night!

Revelation 21:1–4 (ESV)
The New Heaven and the New Earth
21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Sorry for the delay, I sat down to write this last night and checked out.  But here it is today.

We have often heard about a new heaven and a new earth.  This message is found in the Old Testament and in the New Testament.

Isaiah 65:17–19 (ESV)
New Heavens and a New Earth
    17     “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth,
        and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.
    18     But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create;
        for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy,
and her people to be a gladness.
    19     I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people;
        no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping
and the cry of distress.

Matthew 24:35 (ESV)
Jesus said: 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Romans 8:19–21 (ESV)
19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

We see this talk of a new heaven and a new earth from Isaiah and from Jesus himself.  How will this happen?  To be honest, I’m not too worried about it.  God created everything that we have today.  He is all powerful and I think I’ll leave that up to him.  If I make any suggestions, I’m sure I’ll only mess it up.  I am a detail person and spend a lot of my time digging into the details.  What I do know is that doctors still do not understand the whole body and scientist cannot come up with a valid explanation of how everything was created.  I know that C.E.R.N.’s Large Hadron Collider (a particle accelerator) near Geneva, scientist are trying to find the Higgs Boson which has been called the God Particle.  They are trying to discover how things were created.  God created it long before the collider was around.  In the Big Bang theory, two particles collided and created the universe.  If it was caused by two particles colliding together, I hope that C.E.R.N. doesn’t create a universe on top of ours and kill us all. <Grin> Just remember that God is in control!  Wikipedia says that “The Big Bang is a well-tested scientific theory and is widely accepted within the scientific community.”  If it is well-tested, I would like to see some of the universes they have created.  The fact is that they have not created any universes.  I love science, and just because they may learn how to create a universe doesn’t mean that there is not a God.  The Big Bang Theory does not hold up to the Scientific Method which states that it is tested over and over again which means (it is reproducible).

With that said, God says he will create a new heaven and a new earth, and I’m not going to worry about how he does it, but it will be a new paradise without sin and the earth will not have thorns.   God says:4"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”  Now, I am looking forward to this new paradise that God will create for us and take care of us.  He will be our God and we will be his people.  I pray: Lord, I look forward to this New Heaven and New Earth.  You are my God and I am yours.  Forgive me when I do things my way, I am a slow learner and often act as though I can do a better job.  Lord, I repent and know that your way is best.  Help me to walk according to your ways and to live according to your will.  Thank you for your plan of salvation for me.  Amen!

PS: I do see science and God working together, but my God is so powerful that if he wanted to create the universe in one day... He is that powerful!  So I don't have a problem with 6 days.  God is the creator of science and science will never catch up to God.  Don't take this as me belittling science, that is not the case.  Take it as how much I believe in an all powerful God.
