Revelation 20:11–15 (ESV)
Judgment Before the Great White Throne
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.
Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they
were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into
the lake of fire.
With Satan, the beast, and the false prophet thrown into the lake of fire, here comes the Judge! John sees a great white throne with the Judge. John sees the dead standing
before the throne. It is made up of both Christians and non-Christians. Another book, the Book of Life, is opened and all are judged by this book. If you name is in the Book of Life, hurray! You are going to heaven. If your name is
not in the Book of Life, you are probably thinking oh (something) and you are realizing that this Jesus dude is for real! This is not a good day. This is the day you find out that the separation from God in the lake of fire. You know you
are guilty when this is going on. The only way to be in the Book of Life is through faith. If your name is in the book, you are judged by what you have done. You do not earn your salvation, but you do receive rewards based on your life.
This judgement happens fast and there are no appeals. The judgement is final. The Judge knows all and sees all. I wonder how they will feel when they know they were wrong and they ridiculed and persecuted those who tried to reach out to them.
This is sad, but our sadness will be lost when we see God face to face. I pray: Lord, help me to never give up sharing the Gospel and help me not to judge those who persecute me, but to love them and continue to share the Gospel. Many will
reject Christ, but some will receive this precious gift from God with joy. Give me strength and courage to keep carrying out the Great Commission. Amen!
