Revelation 18:1–3 (ESV)
The Fall of Babylon
18
After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory. 2 And he called out with a mighty voice,
“Fallen,
fallen is Babylon the great!
She has become a dwelling place for demons,
a haunt for every unclean spirit,
a haunt for every unclean bird,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.
3
For all nations have drunk
the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality,
and the kings of the earth have
committed immorality with her,
and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.”
Another angel comes down
from heaven. This is probably a different angel, but it comes with great authority. It is interesting that John speaks of Babylon the great has fallen, yet this is yet to come. I must admit that speaking of the future in past tense
is like trying to stick a square peg in a round hole, but this event is yet to come. It takes a great and strong power to defeat Babylon. Satan had lined up his best for battle and they will be defeated, with such surety that John writes about
it in past tense. The city becomes a haunt for unclean spirits, unclean birds, and detestable beasts. I think of this scene as a condemned building that has vagrants, druggies, and outlaws living in it. There definitely is a reason to evangelize
with the hope that their hearts will not be hardened. But at this point it is too late. God just stepped in and cleaned house.
I pray: Lord, help me to continue spreading your Word to all people.
Help me to not pick and choose who I share it with, but to share the gospel with all regardless of perceptions. Let the seeds planted today yield it’s fruit before the Second Coming. Amen.
